Q-Safe™ – one of the world's safest quick hitch locks

Q-Safe™ is engcon's newly-developed quick hitch lock for excavators. The biggest innovation is that incorrect tool connection due to the 'human factor' is no longer possible. The system simply takes over some of the operator's safety duties.

Q-Safe™ has threefold safety which safety awareness hallmarks the whole product range.

With Q-Safe™, engcon has constructed one of the world’s safest quick hitch locks, where the risk of incorrect tool connection is designed out. With Q-Safe™ fitted to an excavator, the bucket or tool must achieve a certain ground contact pressure to allow connection or removal. It is simply not possible to release the bucket or tool while it is hanging in mid air.

Contact

1

When the Q-Safe™ quick hitch makes contact with the bucket or tool's first pin, people in the surrounding area are alerted by a loud audible warning and bright warning light and the machine's slew function is blocked.

2

The audible warning and the light will continue to alert all the time the bucket or tool is not properly locked by both pins. Furthermore, the slew function will continue to be blocked.

3

When both pins have full contact, the audible/visual alerts are cancelled and the slew restriction released. The machine is ready to work with the bucket/attachment fully connected. The tool can now only be removed when it is resting on the ground at a given pressure.

Q-Safe™ quick hitch lock with safety functions such as:

  1. Electronic surveillance via two independent sensors that monitor both axles' contact.
  2. A non-return valve prevents the hydraulic cylinder opening even in the event of a hose rupture/pressure drop.
  3. Powerful, exterior springs keep the coupler locked even if the electronics and hydraulics fail.
  4. In addition, the rear axle is locked in a wedge-shaped position with a smart "steel-lip" preventing the attachment falling out of position
regardless of anything failing in any of the other safety functions.
  1. Double electronic sensors ensure contact with front and rear pins.
  2. A check valve prevents the locking cylinder from returning even in the event of a pressure loss.
  3. Harder springs retain locking capability even under pressure loss.
  4. Hook safety classification complies with EN ISO 12100-1/A1:2009 and EN ISO 12100-2/A1:2009
  5. QLM warning system with light and audible signals is standard equipment.
  6. The rear pin lock also holds the front pin in its correct position thus eliminating the risk of accidents caused by swinging tools that are only connected to the front pin.
  7. The unique shape of the lock bolt retains the tool in the quick coupler even if other safety functions should fail.
  8. Q-Safe™ comes with EC-Oil™, engcon’s automatic hydraulic connector system.
  9. The tool must be in contact with the ground to activate the quick coupler lock. *

* The ground pressure function requires the bucket/tool to exert pressure on the ground before it can be unhitched. The function comes with the engcon Quick coupler Standard Control (QSC) locking system.

A safe offer — order Q-Safe now!

Q-Safe™ enjoys threefold safety through:

Electronic monitoring, hydraulic locking and a mechanical blocking function. With Q-Safe™, the safety system shoulders some of the operator's responsibility for connecting the attachment correctly, thus providing a safer workplace. Initially, Q-Safe™ will be delivered with a warning system. Order the complete system with slew limitation and the ground contact requirement for tool disconnection in consultation with the machine supplier.

From 2014, in a phased program, engcon will be supplying Q-Safe™ as a standard quick hitch lock in sizes S45, S60, and S70. This is applicable both as a machine hitch and below engcon tiltrotators

Q-Safe™ means extra safe

  1. Q-Safe™ functions independently of the tiltrotator's control system and is prepared for EC-Oil, which allows automatic connection of hydraulics and electrics, as well as central lubrication of hydraulic attachments.
  2. The locking cylinder is dimensioned and calculated to handle the maximum hitch opening force that can occur through external excavation forces, with the applicable machine size.
  3. Q-Safe™ meets current EN474, SS-EN ISO 12100-1 and SS-EN ISO 12100-2 safety standards and the future ISO 13031 standard..
  4. The locking surface angle, in relation to the excavation forces, is 90 degrees or more throughout the entire maneuver, which means that the excavation forces constantly seek to close the hitch.
  5. Q-Safe™ safety locking is dimensioned to cope with full excavation forces in all directions.
