O’Halloran delivers for major infrastructure

O'Halloran Management Services Pty Ltd has been supplying plant, labour and equipment to the construction and rail industry for over 30 years. The company has a highly qualified and experienced management team, skilled personnel and a large range of specialised civil and hi-rail plant and equipment.

Their fleet includes excavators, a range of trucks, compact wheel and track loaders, water carts and hi-rail excavators, hi-rail trucks, vacuum trucks and elevated work platforms. They provide services across civil and rail projects to top tier clients who are undertaking large infrastructure projects as well as smaller construction companies.

“We have built our reputation on high quality of work and innovative, cost-effective solutions”, said Joey O’Halloran.

“Adopting the latest technology is part of our approach to remaining a market leader, and the advent of the engcon tiltrotator has been an important step in this process.

Wide use of tiltrotators

“Over the years we have seen the engcon tiltrotator become widely used for all types of civil works, and particularly for railway applications. Our latest equipment acquisition has been a 14-tonne Liebherr 914A Litronic excavator fitted with an engcon system.

“The high performance, reliability and flexibility of this combination has been amazing, with the feedback from all our worksites and operators being totally positive. The tiltrotator has enabled us to perform tasks that previously would have taken the time of several labourers and has given us the ability to access tasks much quicker and in a safer manner.

“In a large city like Sydney space has become rare. We have observed how the engcon tiltrotator has solved huge problems of access and productivity and quickly realised adopting this technology was an important part of keeping us in line with, and ahead of the industry” he said.

Absolutely necessary

Operations manager Kieran Condon agrees. “Throughout the civil construction industry, there is no doubt that tiltrotators are becoming standard equipment and considered essential. When it comes to jobs like highway maintenance and working around traffic areas, we are constantly operating in tight spaces and very strict time zones to meet environmental regulations and to minimise traffic disruption.

"On rail sites the use of tiltrotators has enabled us to work very safely in exclusion zones and represents a major impact on improving site safety and minimising site time.

"We currently have four engcon systems in our fleet, of which three are fitted to hi rail excavators. Our operators have embraced the tiltrotator system and constantly report how much easier it makes the job and speeds up operations”.

O’Halloran excavator operator Shane Zarb said his first experience on the job with the engcon system on the Liebherr 914A excavator was totally positive.

“It was only a week after being introduced to the engcon system that I was working on a job with the new Liebherr wheeled excavator. I quickly found myself at ease with the controls and performed the precise demands of the task with ease and high precision.

“I discovered I didn’t need as many tools on the job. Not changing tools, not needing to move the excavator and being able to remain in the cab is a massive time saver. From an operator’s viewpoint, the system is a big game changer. I certainly don’t want to be going back to operating a standard hitch and bucket,” said Shane.

Huge increase in productivity

Joey O’Halloran said, "We are doing a lot of work in rail tunnels and have been utilising mini 6 tonne excavators with engcon systems. The rail forks attachments are used to move materials in and out of the tunnel. As space in the tunnel is extremely limited, it is often difficult to access materials on the tunnel track. Having the engcon system with its tilt and rotate capabilities is absolutely necessary for getting this job done.

“When you are working with a fit-out team within a tunnel, it’s difficult to imagine how much longer this would take without the tiltrotator system.

“Our major customers are now acutely aware of the productivity and safety benefits of equipment using engcon tiltrotator systems. It is now common to receive requests that machines are fitted with these devices”.

Over the years we have seen the engcon tiltrotator become widely used for all types of civil works.
