Since 2005, Gravity Logic Inc. has been designing mountain bike parks all over the world.
And when they came across engcon’s tiltrotator, the company got a real boost.
“We use mini excavators for some trails. Thanks to our discovering the engcon tiltrotator, our work has not just become much easier, it’s also become more innovative,” says Tom “Pro” Prochazka, one of the three joint owners.
Gravity Logic Inc, based in Whistler, Canada, designs and constructs mountain bike parks. The company started up in 2005, but their experience goes much further back than that. Back in 1998, the three joint owners – Rob Cocquyt, Dave Kelly and Tom “Pro” – developed and ran Whistler Mountain Bike Park.
Most of their assignments are for ski resorts that want to increase their summer season incomes. That was what took them to Järvsö Bike Park in 2009. The assignment was to construct four new trails, and the machine operator they worked with was something else.
“He was extremely skilful, and the quality of the trails we constructed exceeded anything we had achieved previously! Since then we have constructed many kilometres of trails in Sweden using excavators with a tiltrotator, and we are now able to do the same for some customers in North America who have bought an engcon tiltrotator,” says Tom.
Gravity Logic has had assignments in the USA, Canada, Europe and Asia. Their work is highly specialised and demands attention to detail. To get the right flow in a trail, you have to have the right design to begin with. Then after that, the actual construction work must follow the design perfectly.
“We use mini excavators for some trails, and thanks to our discovering the engcon tiltrotator, our work has not just become much easier, it’s also become more innovative. With the usual conventional excavators we could only achieve a certain level of design. It was too complicated to be cost-effective. With the tiltrotator we were able to push the boundaries of our design work, safe in the knowledge that we would be able to put it in to practice – under budget, too,” says Tom.
He is convinced that the tiltrotator will revolutionise the construction of mountain bike trails, that it will set a new standard and become a “must-have” tool for all major bike parks in the world. “The engcon tiltrotator has both improved the quality and reduced costs for the new cycle trails being constructed. That’s all that matters in our business.”
