As a 30 year-old Sten Larsen started his company Arvika Byggservice AB, and now is a well-established actor in the Arvika area, taking on most jobs within construction and earthworking contracting.
And the company is in fact the result of a childhood dream.
“I remember so well when I wasn’t allowed to touch my friend’s toy excavator. Right there and then I decided to buy my own when I grew up”, explains Sten with a twinkle in his eye.
Sten tells us that he had previously worked in the construction industry in Norway, but got tired of constantly being away, so he started up on his own.
“We mainly take on entire contracting jobs within the construction industry. This basically means that we first excavate and prepare the ground using our contracting machines and afterwards the construction crews take over and put the houses up. When that’s ready we return with the machines and finish off the earthworks”, says Sten Larsen.
The company has eight employees and the machine fleet comprises of two excavators, both with engcon Tiltrotators, two Volvo wheel loaders and various other construction machines. There is a mixed customer base, from private individuals to other construction companies and industrial companies.
“The majority of the other construction companies in the area are pure building firms, and it happens that we help them with earthworks”, continues Sten Larsen, who confirms that the climate is good between the companies, despite the fact that they sometimes make tenders for the same jobs.
One of the more recent jobs that the company has carried out is on its own industrial building in Koppsäng, which will house both the construction and contracting activities. This is where we come across the latest addition to the firm, a new Case CX130C, fitted with an engcon EC219 with integrated grab.
“I’ve driven a lot with Tiltrotators, but nothing feels as strong and stable as this”, says Sten of his new EC219.
Sten means that both the tilt and rotation power are significantly better than the previous generation, and that the increased tilt angle has already come into its own in certain situations.
“If you’re in a tight spot at a site it’s sometimes impossible to change the machine’s position. That’s when the extra tilt angle comes in handy”, explains Sten.
“The fact that it has an built-in central lubrication function is another plus”, Sten continues.
Sten also tells us how useful the integrated grab is. On the first day he found use for it when he had to lift a number of logs that had been felled for a residential site.
