engcon – the obvious choice

Raimo Asikainen Ky in Vaasa thinks it goes without saying that their excavators should be fitted with tiltrotators nowadays. Instead, they have to choose which make to go for – and the fact that nine out of their ten excavators have engcon tiltrotators is no coincidence.

“We’re tried other makes, but they’re not as durable or reliable. The ready accessibility of servicing and spare parts is a big plus with engcon,” says Pasi Asikainen.

The company will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next year. Raimo Asikainen Ky has acquired a solid reputation over the years; particularly in the Vaasa region, which is the company’s main market, even though they take on work all over Finland. The company works with infrastructure construction and cable routing, but it also provides machine hire services.

“We currently have 17 staff and 13 excavators, but these numbers may increase when we have larger projects to work on,” says Pasi Asikainen.

The machine fleet is dominated by Volvo, a throwback to the Åkerman years. But the latest machines are of a different make: a Liebherr A314 and a A918.

“As regards the latter, we needed an urban machine that also had the capacity for heavier work. The short-ended machine was more expensive than the standard model, but this was the one we wanted.”

engcon are reliable

It goes without saying that the company had to fit its machines with tiltrotators. If they hadn’t, lots of their jobs simply couldn’t be done. They used to use half engcon products, and half of another make.

“But we started to find mechanical faults and problems with the other make. After that we gradually made more of a switch to engcon as their durability is considerably better. The fact that their prices are much the same made this an easy choice for us,” says Pasi Asikainen.

Keeping unplanned stoppages to an absolute minimum – crucial for good relations with customers and long-term profitability – is also manifested in other ways.

“Customers have to be able to trust us to keep our promises. That’s why we always keep a machine on standby at our machine shed, just in case there are any problems anywhere.”

“We’re tried other makes, but they’re not as durable or reliable. The ready accessibility of servicing and spare parts is a big plus with engcon.”
