Janssen Group (The Netherlands) engcon customer for more than 18 years

During its 27-year history, engcon has built a vast and steady customer base. Not only in home region Scandinavia, where over 95% (!) of all excavators are tiltrotator equipped, but in multiple European countries. One of them is Janssen Group, located in the south of The Netherlands. We met up with Equipment Manager Ruud Willems and learned about their strategic choice for engcon.

Almost every excavation company finds itself facing the same challenges: how do we maximize machine utilization? How can we do more work in lesser time? What’s the best way to increase profit, whilst giving our customer the best project results? Answering these questions led Janssen Group to engcon. For over 18 years straight the use of engcon tiltrotators is an evitable vital part of their continuous optimization strategy.

Currently Janssen Group engages 21 engcon tiltrotators, divided over a group of mobile 14 to 19 ton excavators, a few tracked excavators and several mini diggers ranging from 3.5 to 8 metric ton. On all the mobile machines the engcon’s used to be direct mounted to the dipper stick. “This requires quite a bit of annual maintenance. Not due to the product itself, which we experience to be highly durable, but simply because we use them so intensively, for all sorts of work” says Ruud Willems, Equipment Manager at Janssen Group.

In 2016, following the Scandinavian model, the so-called sandwich configuration (machine quick coupler - tiltrotator - quick coupler under the tiltrotator, red.) became a trend in The Netherlands. Ruud continues: “At the time we were about to invest into a new 19 ton mobile machine, and the Dutch engcon sales team advised us we’d be even more flexible with such a set-up. They explained we would be able to use the tiltrotator as we were used to, which is over 90% of the time, but simply take the unit off for hammer demolition jobs for instance. Adding the automated hydraulic coupling system EC-Oil to the system would also allow for ultra-fast attachment changes without leaving the machine cab.

We could definitely see the benefits, so we decided to go for it and even make the strategic choice for engcon’s DC-2 control system. The ergonomics of DC-2 is just great, the operators tell me! It offers a wide range of attachments selection and the sorting grapple for example can tilt, rotate and grab all at the same time; very efficient. Actually the system offers so many control options and runs so smoothly, that it took our drivers some time to get used to it”, Ruud says laughingly. Than he becomes serious again: “DC-2 also offers remote support via a smartphone app. Fantastic feature when you’re out there in the field. Just press a button and the engcon support team can diagnose and cure the problem from distance! Long story short: we are very happy with our latest engcon investment! It saves us a lot of time in the work field, provides optimal flexibility and makes us stand out from our competition.”

engcon also proved to be a real partner. “Their products are so robust they last us for years, provided we apply normal regular maintenance. But I remember one time last year when we had a technical issue: it was Christmas, but the engcon support team was only a phone call away and helped us out right away.”

Ruud concludes: “Janssen Group’s strategic choice for engcon 18 years ago definitely was the right one to make!”
