At the international GaLaBau exhibition in Nuremburg, Germany, engcon's Q-Safe quick coupler was awarded the 2014 GaLaBau Innovations Medaille. engcon was honoured in tough competition with 133 other companies – and as the sole company in the excavator segment – for Q-Safe, a coupler that greatly reduces the risk of accidents caused by dropped tools. "The award is an acknowledgement that Q-Safe, with its unique solutions, is the world's safest quick coupler. This spurs us on to continue our broad investment in the Non Accident Generation," says Stig Engström, engcon's founder and owner.
GaLaBau focuses on landscaping and the design, construction and maintenance of sports grounds, golf courses, playgrounds and other public spaces. This year's exhibition – the 21st – broke all records with its 1,300 exhibitors and almost 67,000 visitors. The emphasis was on contractors, architects and landscape architects seeking information about trends in green design, construction and maintenance.
In all, 133 different innovations were judged at this year's GaLaBau, of which 19 were awarded prizes. Among the award criteria, innovations were required to represent a substantial improvement to an existing product or be an entirely new product that sets higher, better standards. engcon was alone among excavator tool manufacturers in receiving an award.
The award justification states: ”Thanks to engcon's Q-safe hitch for excavators, workplace conditions in landscaping sites will become safer. There are many accidents involving personal injury resulting from incorrect user actions. engcon Q-safe reduces this risk potential substantially."
Q-Safe provides threefold safety thanks to hydraulic monitoring, a mechanical locking function and electronic monitoring. With Q-Safe, the operator simply cannot connect a tool incorrectly or release a bucket by mistake. This eliminates the human factor as a cause of accidents. Q-Safe is also factory prepared for EC-Oil, a fully-hydraulic solution that connects tool hydraulics automatically.
