“We’ve run into places where if I didn’t’ have my engcon, I wouldn’t have gotten the hole dug without resorting to a shovel”

“This is a crowded site. They’re putting a large building on a small section of land with a lot of environmental setbacks, and a lot of steep slopes and some tricky terrain,” said Jerry. When talking about how his engcon helps him at this site, he said “this thing will reach around corners, go places and dig trenches anywhere. When it comes time to final grade, it will navigate any terrain that the designers can come up with. We’ve run into places where if I didn’t’ have my engcon, I wouldn’t have gotten the hole dug without resorting to a shovel.
This thing will stand off to the side of the hole, it can be on the other side of the hole, you can dig backwards with it, you can dig sideways with it, and anywhere in between. If you can get near the hole, you can dig the hole with this thing,” he added.

We asked Jerry about how he came to own an engcon. He shared that he first learned about engcon and its capabilities on the Dirt Ninja’s YouTube Channel. “I watched what he was doing with it and listened to what he had to say and I decided that I wanted to try one for myself. I looked into them a little bit more, and they made a lot of sense for what I do,” he said.

Jerry bought the engcon a few months ago when he bought a new CAT 305.5E. When researching options for his purchase, Jerry compared OEM offerings to engcon’s. “I looked at their buckets, couplings and attachments and compared to what engcon offers. For the money, I think the engcon is a better deal, a better product, and the engcon team knows the most about the technology and capabilities,” he said.

Jerry shared his personal experience with learning how to operate the tiltrotator and using the DC2 controls. “I’ve been running this for about 100 hours now, and I’m learning it fairly quickly,” he said. “The controls are intuitive, very comfortable, the hand rests keep your hands right where they need to be, and the rollers are low effort,” he said. “It’s a comfortable machine to run, and when I’m on machines that don’t have the tiltrotator, I find myself reaching for the dials to move the bucket, and I get a little bit disappointed when it doesn’t move,” he joked.

If you’re going to buy a new machine, it’s well worth the investment to buy an engcon
We asked about his experience with the couplers for his machine and how he came to select engcon. “I’d actually priced the OEM quick couplers. By comparison, the engcon seem better built. They’re simple they’re rugged, and they even were less expensive,” he explained. “They’re also a very tight fit so there’s no slop once they’re hooked up, which is nice and I do switch buckets quite a lot with this thing. We’ve got three buckets for it: A cable bucket, a two-foot digging bucket and a four-foot grading bucket and they’re nicely matched to this machine. I’ve got the coupler too, so I can take the whole tiltrotator off. But so far, I haven’t wanted to do that,” he concluded.

I think we’re going to end up with a few more of them in the future. And my advice for anyone out there is if you’re going to buy a new machine, it’s well worth the investment to buy an engcon.
